Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use mvcaretaking.com, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification, or other assistive technology. If something on the site does not work for you, please tell us (see Section 4).
1. Our goal
We aim for the site to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. We check the site against that standard ourselves. No outside party has certified or audited it.
2. What we have done
- Pages use semantic HTML, with headings, lists, landmarks, and labeled form fields, so assistive technology can describe them accurately.
- You can reach and use links, menus, and forms with a keyboard alone, and the homepage has a link that skips straight to the signup form.
- When you move through a page with a keyboard, the element you are on shows a clear focus outline.
- We have checked text and background colors against the WCAG level AA contrast ratios.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, the site turns off or reduces its animations.
- If a required field is missing or an email address is not valid, the form shows a written error message tied to that field, and screen readers announce status messages.
3. Known limitations
- The map of Martha's Vineyard on the homepage is decorative, and it is hidden from screen readers. The town names it shows are also listed in the signup form's town menu.
- Decorative illustrations, such as the homepage scenery and service icons, are hidden from screen readers because they do not add information.
- The sample visit report on the homepage is a concept illustration. Screen readers announce it with a short description rather than reading each part.
- Some content comes from third parties, such as Cloudflare Turnstile and Google Analytics, which we do not control.
We review the site as we change it, and we will update this page when we fix a limitation or find a new one.
4. Report a barrier
If something on the site is hard or impossible for you to use, please tell us through the contact page. It helps to include the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and the browser and any assistive technology you were using. Tell us how you would like us to reply, for example plain-text email.
We will respond within a reasonable time and work with you to fix the problem or to give you the information or service another way.
5. Changes to this statement
We will update this statement as the site changes. The effective date above will change with each revision.
